THE KING, UNVEILED

once upon a time,
there was a young man
who was visited by
burger king.
in his room.
while he was sleeping.
no one knows why.

although burger king was
entirely creepy,
with that perma-grin
and plastic face
and ginormous gold chain,
for goodness sake,
the young man was smitten.
He vowed right then and there to
become just like his hero.

and here he is.
our dear friend, eric,
who is finally livin' the dream.

eric's wife, meagan
is one lucky woman.

but wait!
what's this?
am i the first to unveil
the true face
behind the mask?

ta da!
kraft's zesty man!
he's recently, uh, cleaned up certain, um,
areas, hasn't he?

CRAPPY CHIP CHALLENGE

we took what we've dubbed
the crappy chip challenge.

i think the photos speak for themselves.

sriracha was ok.
spicy.

chicken and waffles?
two taste sensations
that should never be together,
but especially in chip form.

oh lay's,
what in the hell were you thinking?

A HOUSING OPTION YOU MAY NOT HAVE HEARD OF

we recently spent
a weekend camping in
deception pass state park.

as we drove from anacortes,
we passed a new housing development.
this is a lot map of said housing development.
note the name.

deception shores.

'fraudulent point,'
'betrayal bluffs'
and
'swindler estates'
must have already been taken.

and maybe someone had already used
'deviant vista,'
'subterfuge trails'
and
'cheater's cove.'

did they ever consider
'flim flam farms'
or
'monkey business meadows?'

i got a million of them, folks!

YOU SHOULD KNOW...

i borrowed this idea for journaling,
and it was fun.
and interesting.
and weird and random.
so i've decided to share it here.
try it out sometime, ok?

you should know...
random bits and pieces of my history

1. I lost a spelling bee in junior high on the word definitely. I spelled it definately. 2. For most of my adult life, I have wanted to try radio announcing. 3. My favorite color as a kid was pink. 4. I believe parenthood is the most challenging, terrifying and rewarding thing i'll ever do. 5. I collected pencils, erasers and stickers as a kid. 6. In 3rd grade, my friend Nicole and I had a crush on the same boy. We would chase him at recess. 6. In college, I stole stickers by putting them inside greeting cards. 7. In high school, I stole menus from restaurants. One time, my dad even helped out. 8. I believe in following your passions. 8. I have a thin scar on the side of my right calf. I got it while huckleberry picking in the mountains of Montana with my grandparents. 9. Kayaking with humpback whales in Baja  with Wyatt has been one of the scariest and most awesome experiences of my life so far. 10. I hate to sweat. 11. I read a lot of teen fantasy novels. 12. Going away to college was very hard for me, but also one of the best things I have ever done. 13. Besides my toddler years, I didn’t really have curly hair until after I gave birth to Boon. 14. Many of my most favorite childhood memories are at Flathead Lake in Montana with my Dufresne Grandparents, Cousins, and Aunt and Uncle. 15. My first plane ride was to Colorado at the age of 21. Wyatt was working there for the summer. 16. When I was young, I organized my Barbies and their accessories more than I played with them. 17. I cry easily…when I’m sad, mad, happy, tired, frustrated…you name it. 18. I always have some sort of project floating around in my head.  My brain doesn’t shut off…ever. 19. I am not comfortable trying to speak another language, even though I know it’s an important part of travelling the world. 20. I do not do facebook. 21. I got straight A’s in school until my sophomore year in high school. I got a B in math. My junior year I got a C in math. 22. My cousins called me Tessbo when we were kids…like Rambo. 23. I’m a huge proponent of naps. 24. I have no cavities. 25. I am terrified of heights.

THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES

i saw this book
at the thrift store recently.

i'm seriously frightened.
the 'woman' in the green dress?
the one on the rocking chair?
that. is. made. from. pantyhose.
the creepiest pantyhose person
i have ever seen.
ok, the only pantyhose person
i have ever seen.
ok, i believe all pantyhose people
will be the creepiest i've ever seen.

these authors
give crafting a bad name.
i don't care how many decades ago
this book was written.

happy nightmares.
you're very welcome.

NACHO CHEESE

you know the stuff.

unnaturally bright yellow.
thick and sticky.
tastes nothing like cheese.

wyatt was travelling somewhere
at sometime or other
and he stopped at a gas station
to grab some fuel
both for his car and himself.

above the nacho cheese dispenser
was a sign.
in big bold letters it said,
NACHO CHEESE IS FOR NACHOS ONLY!!!

and while our curiosity is blazing,
i think it's safer if we never find out
the reason behind that sign.
don't you agree?

HIGH CLASS

***
warning:
if you are offended by
or not a fan of
PPFH (Poop Pee Fart Humor)
you might just want to skip this post.
warning complete.
***

so, the other night,
wyatt and hudson were playing
would you rather.
you know the game...
would you rather...
eat a bug or drink mud?
would you rather...
sweat mayo or smell like cooked cabbage?
would you rather
share a bed with a skunk or a porcupine?
you get the idea.

anyhoo...
hudson comes up with this one:
would you rather have a butt for a face
or a face for a butt?

hmmmm...
thought-provoking, don't you think?
and quite frankly, brings to mind some
creepy crazy images, doesn't it?

so, while hudson and his dad are discussing this
rather philosophical question
i enter the room.
and of course, i join in.
really, who wouldn't?
and soon boon comes along and joins in, too.

so there we are, the davis 4,
arguing the merits of each choice.
a butt for a face or a face for a butt?
is it a personal preference?
or is one actually better than the other?
and what exactly does that mean,
butt for a face?
face for a butt?
what are the ramifications of each option?
what makes the most sense for modern living?
an ultra-intellectual conversation, i assure you.
but sadly, we were never able to come to a consensus.
the decision is just too perplexing.
and important for the future of humankind.

.

who says we aren't high class?
no one, that's who.

DAPPER DRYER

we have a mustache
on our dryer.
don't you?

if you're gonna have to do
the hideous chore of laundry,
you might as well have someone
to talk to.
someone classy.

RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM MY BRAIN

beware.
random thoughts from my brain
coming up.
here.
right now.
you might want to look away.
there's a lot of crazy stuff
going on in there.
trust me.
it doesn't shut off.
and i have to listen to it
each and every day.
it's a burden i have to bear.
you do not.
unless you read this blog post.
consider yourself warned.

there's a mystery beeping in our house.
it goes off every 15 minutes.
we lived with it for a week,
trying to sleuth out what it was.
but not sleuthing very hard.
i mean, really.
it's not like we're sherlock or something.
we finally confined it to the garage.
turns out it's a verizon battery
or something not very exciting
like that.

i realized that i leave a trail of bobby pins
wherever i go.
wyatt pointed it out.
he says he finds them in
the oddest of places.

my current favorite quote:
"weird is a side effect of awesome."
word up, yo.

i'm reevaluating my home.
well, not really,
but sort of.
you see, the sears repair guy
came to fix our washer.
he was here a while.
(and to get this straight,
the house was pretty darn clean,
except for the pile of legos
in the living room and
nerf darts strewn about).
eventually he asked,
do you run a daycare?
like i said,
i'm reevaluating my home.
not really,
but sort of.

it makes me happy to see someone
singing in their car.
maybe it makes me feel
less of a fool.

we still have gingerbread houses
on display in our house.
and it's driving me nuts.

each time i pick up
my entertainment weekly magazine,
i lose a little of my self respect.
if i read it in the bathroom
that feeling reduces a bit.
go figure.

i find facebook a bit creepy.
forgive if i offend.

another quote rattling around up there:
dear "cool people,"
they didn't name a candy after you,
did they?
sincerely, nerds

and another:
when i look in the mirror
i see a unicorn.
a badass unicorn.

i have 79 boards and
 4,505 pins
on pinterest.
to some that seems excessive.
to me that seems awesome.

i'll sign off now.
not my brain.
just my fingers,
typing this post.

keep fresh.
stay rad.

and go carpe the hell
out of this diem.

ENOUGH SAID

remember this maxell ad from the '80s?

remember how i've mentioned before that our home
is crazy loud thanks to our two boys
who do not know how to talk
in anything but an ear-blasting yell?

enough said.

I'M HOMEGOODS HAPPY!

oh, yes..... yes. yes. yes. a homegoods came to my neck of the woods. i've been hoping for one! it's owned by the same company as tj maxx and marshalls. and i always love a new place to look for goodies, especially when i'm working on a home project or a party or something. and i know. going to the grand opening? a bit crazy. but i went. the line to check out snaked around the store. it was crazy. didn't really see anything worth waiting in line for hours, but it was fun to observe the crazies. and i had my photo taken, too. that's my own brand of crazy. straight from me to you.

YARN BOMBING!!!

check this out. yarn bombing in a nearby town. i had heard about it but it wasn't until i drove by the other evening that i realized just how totally awesome it is.

it's like all the trees are dressed for the cold weather.
a bunch of colorful socks, all huddled together.

seriously. look at this one. total awesomeness. with pom poms, no less!
some artist did this installation using an old knitting machine. it's really quite stunning and such a neat way to bring art to folks like me and other park goers.
it feels like you're in a dr. seuss movie or something.

i am so impressed by people who do amazing stuff like this.
