BACK IN THE SADDLE

SPENCER SPIT

last month we packed up the trailer of tears and headed out to anacortes where we caught a ferry to the san juan islands. our destination was spencer spit state park on lopez island and it was amazing!

see how cool? as you can imagine, hours were spent tossing rocks into the water. and we came home with enough collected sticks and rocks to build a small village.

the guys became junior rangers. they learned how to bake cinnamon rolls in a makeshift convection oven for the fire, cook apples in foil, identify local birds and clam shells, and other neat-o camping stuff.

we visited the local farmer's market. it was super cute. there was a juggler there that let the kids try out their stuff with his gear. we also picked up local meat and veggies to cook for dinner over the fire and had a potpourri lunch...crepes, tacos and fudge.

we rode our bikes around...

looked cute at the beach despite the rainy weather...

and made our own monocles out of materials straight from nature. wyatt is crafty like that.

the boys get their craftiness from their dad, i'm sure. they picked out some supplies at the store and created headdresses and jewelry for hours of fun. yes, they play "natives."

this was a fun family trip for all of us. we will surely return.

I'M HOMEGOODS HAPPY!

oh, yes..... yes. yes. yes. a homegoods came to my neck of the woods. i've been hoping for one! it's owned by the same company as tj maxx and marshalls. and i always love a new place to look for goodies, especially when i'm working on a home project or a party or something. and i know. going to the grand opening? a bit crazy. but i went. the line to check out snaked around the store. it was crazy. didn't really see anything worth waiting in line for hours, but it was fun to observe the crazies. and i had my photo taken, too. that's my own brand of crazy. straight from me to you.

A HEALTHY EATING TIDBIT JUST FOR YOU

the other evening over dinner, hudson shared with us a little tidbit of information he learned from a friend from school.

"you know what the healthiest drink in the world is?...

sprite zero."

THE BIG E-Z AND FRIENDS

this big little man came to visit last weekend.

he brought his mommy and his grandma, my sister and mom.

ezra and the boys had a serious blastola of a good time.
they enjoyed serious mealtime conversations...

they gave each other snuggles...

and still more snuggles...

and my boys taught their 16-month-old cousin how to wrestle, so sometimes the snuggling turned into this...

the boys were so happy to play with ezra and hang with grandma and aunt lissa...

that when it was time for them to leave, they had a very, very tough morning. sadness all around.

come back soon!!! please, oh please! we miss you!

FUNNY GUY

this guy is funny. unintentionally, of course. him and his class were preparing for a field trip to the international district. he told wyatt how the teachers had instructed them not to comment on any smells they might encounter. they were supposed to say something like, "hmmm...that's different."

wyatt told boon that it made sense because he wouldn't want someone coming where he lived and saying, "this place smells weird!"

boon replied that if anyone said that, he's say, "yea, you get used to it."

hmmm. maybe i need to clean house more?

SCENES FROM MOTHER'S DAY

mother's day was delightful! after a most delicious breakfast at one of my favorite spots, senor moose, we headed over to the farmer's market.

the flowers were all devine. i couldn't stop snapping photos with my camera.

we bought the boys a cookie. and which one did they pick? the mom one, of course! sweetie pies, they are. (the boys, not the cookies.they weren't pies. they were just cookies.)

and the produce was gorgeous.

after the market, we took a walk along some trails in discovery park. it was a beautiful day and my guys treated me well, all 3 of them. :) i'm a lucky momma for sure.

YARN BOMBING!!!

check this out. yarn bombing in a nearby town. i had heard about it but it wasn't until i drove by the other evening that i realized just how totally awesome it is.

it's like all the trees are dressed for the cold weather.

a bunch of colorful socks, all huddled together.

seriously. look at this one. total awesomeness. with pom poms, no less!

some artist did this installation using an old knitting machine. it's really quite stunning and such a neat way to bring art to folks like me and other park goers.

it feels like you're in a dr. seuss movie or something.

i am so impressed by people who do amazing stuff like this.

THERE'S ANOTHER SCRAPBOOKER IN THE FAMILY, FOLKS!

hudson has gotten his crafty on lately. a lot, actually. and here are two scrapbook pages he did all on his own. honestly and truly. he asked for particular colors and supplies, i helped him choose adhesives that would work, and away he went. aren't they unbelievable? i love love love them. and i love love love the guy who made them. so thoughtful and loving and sincere. he's a sweetheart, that one. it's fun to have a crafty buddy in the house.
