WE FINALLY SEE THE LIGHT

anyone remember this lovely light fixture we took from our entryway back in january? the one that hudson cried and cried over and begged to be put back up?

well, i'm happy to report that hudson no longer misses his favorite light and is happy with our new beauty:

i bought a brass chandelier from the thrift store for ten dollars, spray painted it golden yellow, and added round light bulbs. they feel more modern to me, but more importantly, remind me of polka dots. and you know what polka dots are? happy!

but i must mention this. boon loved this chandelier in brass. he said it was fancy and suggested strongly that i keep it in the original form. sorry buddy. good thing after wyatt hung our new lovely lady, boon told us that he thought it made our house look sort of like a mansion. cool.

THRIFTY HOLIDAY GOODNESS

don't these yarn spools look like little trees? and in my favorite colors, no less (and a hint at what the happy room is sporting this holiday season...stay tuned).i spotted them at the thrift store and snatched them up. you know, before the mobs of crazy thrifters hunting for yarn on cones in these exact colors found them. and the plate? also a happy find, and half price...3 bucks. wahoo. i love me some thrifty finds.

PLEASE ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE...THE HAPPY ROOM

this is our happy room.
it's a work in progress.
i've got a list of projects still to do, including backing the wood cabinet with fabric (gotta make that milk glass a star, you know), painting the black fireplace insert, hanging something above the mantle (maybe off center?) to help balance the different furniture heights, adding a coffee table, replacing our recliner (it's not our style anymore, but dang it's comfortable!) and installing baseboard trim.
however, it's livable and we love it.
it makes us happy!

i've been collecting art and goodies for a while as i dreamed up this room. and may i send a big shout out to etsy, my local thrift stores, a few good cans of spray paint and a myriad of inspiring decorating magazines, books, and blogs i scoured for months for helping make this all happen?
remember the thrifted books i posted about?
well, here they are, out of a box and onto my shelves:

i even found an aqua book (located below the yellow frame with the photo of my boys) titled The Sweet Life. how delightful is that?
and what do the boys do now that the living room isn't a total free-for-all?

THRIFTY FINDS

have been finding random treasures at my thrift stores lately. i get so seriously giddy at finding a goody. such thrifty goodness in the world. sigh.

first off, this delightful typewriter. in brilliant shape. a beautiful silvery pale turquoisey blue. works like a charm. even has the case with key. and only 7 bucks! wahoo! i'll use it for scrapbooking and ransom notes.

and these beeeeaaautiful books. complete with that musty old book smell. i would have paid extra! i've been keeping my eye out for oldish books with spines in a variety of colors. and if i can find one with a title that i find humorous (ie the art of cheese cookery) or have a personal connection with (ie copper kings of montana), all the better. in my current collection are a few science books that make me think of wyatt and the boys, a little book about love i've had since a child, a synonym-antonym-homonym book and an old basal reader that hints to my english/education roots as well as books with other connections that make me happy. and of course, a couple of heloise books. because i am so into cleaning house, don't you know.

and what will i do with these books, you ask? well, we'll see. as i dream of rennovating my living room, i picture these grouped on a bookcase somewhere with a few white milk glass type pieces placed about. when they do find a somewhat permanent place in my home, i'll share, ok?
