PEPPERMINT SUNBURST

this is my version of the iconic 70s sunburst.
well, my version in that i made it.
but i didn't make it up.
i was inspired by the current issue of woman's day
and also by tatertotsandjello.com.
she saw the magazine cover and went home and whipped one up on her own.
some folks baffle me.
anyhoo...i think it will be a fun addition to the happy room during the holiday season.
and by the way, i'm so in love with those stripey paper straws.
they come in so many colors! what else can we make with them?

while some discover religious figures in pieces of toast and tortillas, we here in our delightful household discover butts in our produce.

MY CRAFTINESS PROCESS

i got my crafty on this month.
it's a great way to procrastinate this holiday season.
i mean, think about it.
first, you've got the searching for inspiration on pinterest.
that vortex can suck you in for days.
then you've got the collecting of supplies.
and one craft store simply won't have it all.
i guarantee it!
and then there's the cutting and rolling and folding and gluing and stitching of flowers! flowers! flowers!
you've got to make extras so you have enough choices.
but wait!
then you have to play with your composition.
and play and play and play.
until finally, the glue gun is heated and ready to roll.
and you go for it.
hoping that your project will weigh in more on the handmade side than the crappy crafty side.
and you never know this until you're done.
and even then, you just aren't sure.
but you like it, at least for a while.
because you made it.
and it was fun.

and that, my friends, is my craftiness process.
during the holidays.
with this wreath.

that i'd like to share.

she's cute.
she can be goofy.
she loves her family more than anyone i know.
she's not a former matlock watcher. nope.
she has an extra large heart, with a special section devoted to children.
she likes cranberry red. and golden yellow.
she is loved by many, many people.
kids adore her, especially her five grandsons.
she adores them all right back.
she's fun.
she likes thrifting and dabbling in computer games and the idea of crafting and spending time with her friends.
she feels at her best when she's surrounded by her family, all of us, together.
and all of us feel so overwhelmingly lucky to have her as our mom, mother-in-law, and grandma.
she is really and truly the most amazing mom and grandma.

WE FINALLY SEE THE LIGHT

anyone remember this lovely light fixture we took from our entryway back in january? the one that hudson cried and cried over and begged to be put back up?

well, i'm happy to report that hudson no longer misses his favorite light and is happy with our new beauty:

i bought a brass chandelier from the thrift store for ten dollars, spray painted it golden yellow, and added round light bulbs. they feel more modern to me, but more importantly, remind me of polka dots. and you know what polka dots are? happy!

but i must mention this. boon loved this chandelier in brass. he said it was fancy and suggested strongly that i keep it in the original form. sorry buddy. good thing after wyatt hung our new lovely lady, boon told us that he thought it made our house look sort of like a mansion. cool.

on some days, just knowing i have this little beauty in my pocket feels like a million bucks.

our target just became a super target. with a starbucks. and next to the starbucks is this mural. way cool. can you see the targets? i found myself staring at it and finally told myself to just take a picture already. it will last longer.

THRIFTY HOLIDAY GOODNESS

don't these yarn spools look like little trees? and in my favorite colors, no less (and a hint at what the happy room is sporting this holiday season...stay tuned).i spotted them at the thrift store and snatched them up. you know, before the mobs of crazy thrifters hunting for yarn on cones in these exact colors found them. and the plate? also a happy find, and half price...3 bucks. wahoo. i love me some thrifty finds.
