after our fantastic visit to
thompson falls, montana
for fireworks, family, fun and frolic,
we headed to our hometown
of spokane, wa.
we played tourists.
we stayed downtown
right next to riverfront park.
and it was cool.
we rode the historic carousel
about a gazillion times...
and took a quick slide down the
iconic radio flyer wagon slide.
we ran with the
bloomsday road race sculptures.
and apparently,
hudson literally ran into one.
and the smell of victory!
victory against stationary statues.
sweet sweet victory.
of course, we had to visit the garbage goat.
what?
your hometown doesn't have one?
my oh my,
you have been deprived.
simply collect some trash,
push the button,
feed the goat
and poof!
the garbage disappears.
someone had some seriously
awesome ideas when they came up with this one.
we rode the sky ride gondolas,
which was super freaky for me
(the heights and all)
but also super cool
and a beautiful view of the falls.
riverfront park was designed
to house expo '74,
the 1974 world's fair.
this butterfly sculpture
used to have colorful fabric over it
when we were kids.
now it's just bare bones,
but i still like the way it looks.
the pavilion was once covered
with fabric as well
to keep folks dry from the elements.
it was too pricey to keep up,
but it's still a beautiful and iconic piece of the city.
