MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE PART 2

Another priceless quote from Hudson on Christmas Eve,
after finding out that Santa doesn't like to be seen and waits
until everyone is in bed before visiting:

"I can't wait to not see him!"

So awesome!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE

This season always seems stressful. We do that to ourselves,
I think. And just when I feel it's barely worth all the work
and worry, we are snuggling in bed this morning with Boon
and he says, quite exuberantly, referring to Christmas:

"It doesn't get any better than this!"

Wow. What a great kid and what a great part of Christmas...
the magic and joy it brings to children.

OVERHEARD TODAY and WHAT I'VE LEARNED ABOUT WESTERN WASHINGTON AND SNOW

OVERHEARD TODAY FROM HUDSON:

"This laser is for getting bad guys and mommies."

And, as he saw a photo of his grandparents given to us for Christmas:
"Oh, cute!"

NOW, ABOUT THAT SNOW:

Snow. We have buckets of it.
Serious snow for practically anywhere, but especially
Western Washington.

Things I've learned about how people in
Western Washington deal with the snow
compared to the rest of the snow experiencing country:

Usually: snow boots
Western WA: rain boots

Usually: snow shovel
Western WA: garden rake

Usually: keep appointments, shop, attend functions, go to work
Western WA: none of the above

Usually: keep driving on the freeway
Western WA: abandon car on freeway and walk

Usually: news reports remind people of driving safely
Western WA: news reports remind people to pull their car
to the side of the freeway before abandoning it

Usually: schools stay open
Western WA: schools shut down

Usually: folks are ready with snow tires, chains, shovels, snow gear, etc.
Western WA: folks panic, run to the store to find that the shelves for
snow tires, chains, shovels, and snow gear are empty and sold out

Good thing it's beautiful and the boys really, really love it! :)

WHY?

WHY do my snowpants have ironing instructions on the tag?


WHY do manufacturers make pants with buttons for anyone under 6 years old?


WHY can't IKEA simply add a handful more of each kind of hardware so we don't run out and have to make a trip way the heck back there for more?


WHY are most holiday form letters so darn full of the bragadilio?

COURAGE MUSTERED and MINDS WARPED

OK, so after those few meager posts, I started to freak out. I got bloggers stagefright, and thought, "This is crazy. What if people someday read this crud?" OK, I said 'crap,' to try and edit for my imaginary audience. This has got to stop!

So, I'm trying my hand at this again. I realize this is for me and a great way to document the crazy little lucky life I am living. I think my Grandma Lorraine will totally jump at this blog thing in her next life, so here I go again.

It's the Christmas season. We don't go to church. We pretty much do nothing religiously related except for Boon's 2 low-key summer Bible Camp experiences.
Boon said something about the "Vible" the other day. Then he continued with,
"I've been to Summer Vible Camp like 10 times!"
Apparently not.

During December, I start to think that maybe my kids need to know just why we celebrate Christmas historically if nothing else.

I bought a PlayMobil nativity set.
The boys were excited.
Boon kinda knew what it was.
He refers to it as "the Jesus Kit."
Hudson says it's "Baby Cheezus and his camoe" (camel)
Sweet.
Did I mention that when they were smaller, they had a Little People Noah's Ark and we referred to it as "Grandma and Grandpa with their pets and boat?"

Warped for sure.
