ON MY RADAR...

childhood school supplies!

bring back any memories?

the smell of this stuff.
the goopy brush attached to the lid.
it was a pain in the butt.

if you had the 64 box
with the sharpener,
you were living the dream.

i highlighted more words
than i left unhighlighted.
it was just too awesome
that i could
a) write in a book
and
b) use a pretty color
and still read the words.
magic!

i had this exact pencil box in
elementary school!
sweet!

why were pee chees popular?
i could not relate
to a single image on these,
and yet i couldn't be without one.

snorted that grape one...a lot.

a horse. on a trapper keeper.
i had died and gone to heaven.

a rainbow. and hearts. on a trapper keeper.
i rode the horse to heaven.

school supplies, folks.
full of memories.
think about it.

STOP 5.5 ON OUR SUMMER VACATION TOUR: NORTH CASCADES

ah, the lovely north cascades national park.

we drove through this beauty
on our way from winthrop to canada.

it was a whirlwind,
with a big 'ol half hour stop
at a lookout.

we squeezed in one more view
at lake diablo...

and ran into these dweebikins.
i wonder where their parents were?

lake diablo is seriously one of the awesomest
bodies of water i have ever seen.
unbelievably green.
so so green!

i dream of schlepping a kayak here someday.
but alas, the border crossing was looming,
so away we went.
we shall meet again.
yep. it's a date.

THE KING, UNVEILED

once upon a time,
there was a young man
who was visited by
burger king.
in his room.
while he was sleeping.
no one knows why.

although burger king was
entirely creepy,
with that perma-grin
and plastic face
and ginormous gold chain,
for goodness sake,
the young man was smitten.
He vowed right then and there to
become just like his hero.

and here he is.
our dear friend, eric,
who is finally livin' the dream.

eric's wife, meagan
is one lucky woman.

but wait!
what's this?
am i the first to unveil
the true face
behind the mask?

ta da!
kraft's zesty man!
he's recently, uh, cleaned up certain, um,
areas, hasn't he?

ON MY RADAR...

ad slogans and jingles
of my youth!

do any of these prompt you
to blurt out a catch phrase
or burst into song?
let's take a closer look, shall we?

ah, wendy's.
old ladies asking about beef.
chuckle worthy.

can you hear the tune in your head?
"you deserve a break today...
so get up and get away...
to mcdonalds."

it's the real thing, people.
the real thing.

or the 'we are the world' type tune.

i am stuck on band-aid brand
cuz band-aid's stuck on me.

here's a classic...
'plop plop fizz fizz...!'

now, who wears short shorts?
anyone?

ok, mikey.
we're thrilled you like it, ok.
thrilled.

anyone know how many licks it actually takes?

and our beloved oscar mayer.
he taught us to spell B-O-L-O-G-N-A
and made us all wish we were wieners
so everyone would be in love with us.

actually, that's kind of messed up.

STOP NO. 5 ON THE SUMMER VACATION TRAIN: WINTHROP, WA

so far on the replay
of our summer vacation tour,
we've seen thompson falls, mt,
spokane, wa
quartz mountain, wa,
thomas lake, wa,
and now we're heading
to winthrop, wa
for a little touristy trip.

we stayed along the river
near the heart of the town
so we could walk
wherever we wanted to go.

you see cool stuff when you walk,
like ginormous dandelions.

we found a super dee duper
delightful place to eat.
no use going anywhere else.
good food, beautiful setting
and most importantly,
beer.
good and plentiful.
when the tag line for the dining establishment is
"we're all about the beer,"
you stop.
no questions asked.

we practiced being cowpokes...

then went out and took a ride on the range.

yee haw.

we swung a few clubs
at the mini golf range...

and tried a local favorite,
East 20 Pizza.

we toured the methow river
via kayak.
it was cold.
we got wet.
there were rapids.
small rapids,
but still,
rapids.
it was cool for some of us.
and not so cool for some of us.
but we're glad we did it.

little winthrop.
a beautiful little touristy stop
with lots to offer
us davis folks
looking for a bit of adventure.
